Temptation is a short duration thing.  Temperance is the spiritual attribute we learn.  It is the "Shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one."  Eph. 6:16

"Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the enemy."  Eph. 6:11

As a soldier in the Lord's army I defend the place I'm posted.  My responsibility extends only as far as the point of my sword -- or as we know it: the Word of God.

Each passing thought is filtered.  Temptations come and if we are obedient to the truth of Christ, we let them pass away, putting them out of our being.  Our very awareness must be purged, constantly -- replacing all with Christ.

"... if by the Spirit you put to death the sins of the flesh, you will live."  Ro. 8:13

In our obedience to the truth, we are grown in the spirit.  Maturing a bit at a time, walking with the Lord.

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  Eph. 6:16.

One notes that it is the shield of faith that protects us from the doubts the enemy pursues us with.

Our best defense is a faithful response based in the truth of scripture -- modeling ourselves after Christ, who in the desert responded.

"Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God."  ... those words are the truth we adhere to.
