This came up in Wednesday services after listening to Dave Herrold speak (BCF.)

In AA / AlAnon, we used to say there is no such thing as Assmosis -- to sit in the chair did not convey results.  "It works if you work it." was the theme.

Scripture says it's not by our work, we can't earn our way into favor with God.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--"  Eph 2:8

With Gods Word, though -- Assmosis does work.  Gods Word is alive and active.  No one can tell when or where it will catch is another's life.  Sitting in Church, sometimes for years -- it all finally adds up.  Usually there's a crisis involved, most prayers of repentance are made from a foxhole.  But at least James McDonnald agrees.  Sitting there, "Week after week, month after month, and seasons pass..."

It's not like sleeping on a bible for a pillow can help, but going to services definitely can.  Grace is a gift.  And sometimes it just catches up with us.
