As used in this post the term "Flat Earth**" refers to science deniers who make all sorts of claims. Heard recently "The orbit of the moon is circular, the moon is receeding so fast that it couldn't have been there for all the time science tells us... God accomplished his creation in six days 6,000 years ago. The universe isn't 13.8 billion years wide." God is a God truth and reason.
Science can not, therefore, contradict scripture. And this is huge: Because creation testifies to God.
That there are gaps in understanding, is WHY Science moves ahead.
It's disressing to hear a brother in a very condescending self-righteous tone -- assert that Science is but one part of a broad conspiracy to lead people into faithless atheism. After the meeting he got in his car, turned the key and drove away. Evidently his faith in science only applies when it's convenient to him. Here's the problem with Flat-Earth Christianity -- "They" -- those deniers of inconvenient fact -- are victims of the same dark-ages broken thinking and delusional religious lies that resisted the Renissance, Reformation thinkers and the Ages of Enlightenment and of Discovery. Haven't we seen this before? Does the addage apply? "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
These are those who would twist facts, engage a pseudo-science (false science) to defeat truth.
A central proposition in typical Flat-Earth exposition is that one either believes in the 6 day creation, or one is a heritic. Either/ or.
The FACT is -- connecting the dots eludes us. There is an explanation for why we don't yet understand creation science according to the Scripture. But I have faith that both are true. It cannot be that the God of the mind, a rational, thinking being uses abstract magic. God made creation in 6 days, yes -- I believe. That he began 13.8 years ago is the best estimate, seems true as well. I accept both, but explain neither.
The majesty of Christ is that he can create in 6 days what seems to us to have taken 13.8 billion years. The majesty of Christ is in his grace; that he accepts me even if I don't understand. The Majesty of Christ is that Creation is. I can have faith in the conjuctive -- that instead of being this or that, the Majesty of Christ is that the unverses' creator made us this AND that. ** Seriously?! I wonder is it a hoax? But FYI, there are folks who think the earth is flat. Visit this link offsite to read "three experiments to prove the earth is flat." |
